4D is based in Spike Island, a community of artists, print makers
and creative industry professionals.
Our approach to landscape design has always been to think as
creatively as possible about our projects, and this has led to many
successful collaborations with artists. We also produce our own
sculptural elements and approaches to landscape elements and land
art.
At Dorset County
Hospital we collaborated with with Richard Harris to produce
three courtyards. These won a RSA Art for Architecture Award.
At the 2nd Rhondda Hospital in Llwynypia, South Wales, we are
collaborating with Howard Bowcott, again in a courtyard
setting.
Here at Spike Island we're collaborating with Steve Joyce to
produce integrated art for the Bristol BsF proposals.
At the Princess Royal
University Hospital in Farnborough we designed 3 of the 19
courtyards to include artworks. Two of these are sculptures
designed by 4D partner Bill Ambridge, and water features by Alan
Wilson.
Other 4D schemes which feature integrated, collaborative or applied
art include Blaise Castle Cafe (with a sculpture by Jason Lane and a
water wall by Alan Wilson), Carterton Leisure
Centre.
