It amounts to an estimated loss of more than 20% per decade i.e. none left in 50 years?

Urban trees are removed primarily through fears of litigation and the harm that they might cause to property in the future due to possible subsidence or leaves clogging gutters or people or trains slipping on them. Before instigating the removal of urban trees, it is time that insurance companies, lawyers and local authorities consider opposite views and accept their benefits, particularly in relation to physical and mental public health and the mitigation of the heat island effects.

Urban conurbations are major producers of harmful emissions. We need tree-lined roads and a significant 'green' infrastructure, so that emissions are dealt with at source and not left to chance. We should do our bit on our own doorstep rather than hope that our emissions might float off to be absorbed at some point in the future.... in a tropical rain forest on the other side of the planet perhaps?

Letter to The Guardian

<dc:subject>4D News</dc:subject>

4D Partner Michele Lavelle airs some of her thoughts about the importance of urban street trees in the letters page of the Guardian.

Click here to read the letter, and here to read the original article.

Bristol BsF

<dc:subject>4D News</dc:subject>

All Weather Pitch now finished at Brislington Enterprise College:

John Henry Court

<dc:subject>4D News</dc:subject>

New staff accommodation opened at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Guernsey on Tuesday this week.
